This is the moment a young woman is pulled off her scooter by an alleged mugger who is scared off by the headlights of a passing car.
The distressing CCTV footage from the town of Zhanlong, which is in Jieyang City in South China’s Guangdong Province, shows the suspect tailing the woman and riding his motorbike alongside her with his headlight off.
However, her would-be rescuer just drives off once the alleged attacker has fled without getting out to check if she is ok.
The video from 22nd August shows the suspect pulling the woman’s clothing, causing her to fall off her scooter onto the road.
The motorcycle suspect then rides up to the woman, parks his bike and begins grappling with the woman in an alleged bid to rob her of her valuables.
The pair wrestle until an SUV turns onto the narrow side street, illuminating the suspect with its headlights and scaring the man off.
The footage shows the frightened crook immediately climbing back on his motorcycle and fleeing the crime scene, with the victim trying in vain to drag the man off his vehicle as he rides away.
The video ends with the woman left standing in the middle of the road while the SUV motorist who saved her drives off without getting out.
The alleged mugger reportedly did not manage to take anything from the woman.
Zhanlong Town police said the woman reported the case to them herself, and that they are searching for the suspect.
They did not comment on online criticism directed at the SUV driver for apparently failing to check on the victim before driving off.
A police spokesman said it was a “moral choice” rather than a legal obligation.
