MUDDY WATERS: Man Rescued After Being Stuck Under Collapsed House Due To Massive Landslide In Italy

A man has been rescued after he was stuck under a collapsed house due to heavy rainfall that triggered a massive landslide in Italy.

The man, identified by Giovan Giuseppe Di Massa, was trapped mid-waist in water and mud after torrential rain devastated the commune of Casamicciola Terme, located in the northern part of the Ischia Island, in Italy.

Giovan, who is reportedly a plumber, was only holding onto a demolished post when his neighbours spotted him and called for help on Sunday, 27th November.

A video recorded by an eyewitness and later shared on social media platforms shows the moment emergency crews attempt to rescue him.

Right before reaching him, a member of the rescue team can be heard saying in the video: “Try to keep your feet on the ground, hold on to something.

“Don’t move, we’ll be right there.”

Giovan was recovered from the muddy water and brought to safety shortly after.

He was transferred to the Anna Rizzoli Hospital in the town of Lacco Ameno located on the northwest part of the island, following the rescue.

His condition is currently stable, Italian media reported.

At least eight people have been confirmed dead, while five are still missing after the horrid landslide hit the island on Saturday, 26th November.

Italian authorities declared a state of emergency due to “exceptional flood and landslide events”, the next morning.

The governor of Campania, Vincenzo De Luca, said in a statement that the region distributed about GBP 3.3 million to meet the most immediate needs relating to the Ischia landslide on Monday.
