This video – seen over five million times – shows a stray puppy crying over the body of its dead friend and apparently refusing to leave his pal as a pedestrian comes to help.

Mr Xiong, the man who found the two dogs, said: “One was already dead, and the other was weak and dying.

“Its cries sounded really devastated.”

The footage taken on 25th October shows the pup loyally waiting next to its dead friend friend’s carcass after the dog had apparently been hit by a car in the county of Daying, which is in Suining City in south-western China’s Sichuan Province.

As Mr Xiong films the small dog, the puppy looks up at his camera as if pleading for help.

Mr Xiong said: “I wrapped it in a piece of clothing and took it back.”

He left the dead pooch where it lay and brought the surviving stray to his workplace, where his colleagues are seen feeding the extremely weak pup.

He was sadly unable to keep the dog himself, so he and his coworkers put the dog in a cardboard box and delivered it to a local animal shelter.

Mr Xiong said: “I hope some kind-hearted person will adopt it.”
