Suspect Monica Vinci, 52, attacked her 13-year-old daughter with a flick knife before throttling her with a phone charger cable.

Then she hurled herself from a first-floor window at the family home in the city of Oristano, Sardinia, on 18th February in an apparent bid to kill herself.

Victim Chiara Carta died from massive blood loss from 30 stab wounds, an autopsy revealed.

The girl’s devastated dad believes his ex killed her because she believed she would move out of her home and in with her father when she turned 14.

Vinci was held in a psychiatric unit to recover from her fall but was then transferred to a prison in Uta on 27th February on murder charges.

At the time of reporting, she had said nothing about her daughter’s killing.

Chiara’s father – traffic policeman Piero Carta – told local media: “I have lost everything. She has taken away what was most precious to me.”

He believes Vinci was afraid that when Chiara turned 14 on 24th March, she would choose to live with her father over her mother.

Tensions between mother and daughter are believed to have been running high in the period leading up to the killing.

Piero believes that Vinci – afraid that she might soon lose her daughter, her benefits, and her home – decided to kill Chiara and take her own life.

The case is ongoing.
