More Arrests Of Social Media Pranksters, This Time For Scaring People With Ape Masks

After an influencer was jailed for pretending to collapse with the coronavirus on a packed Russian tube line, more social media pranksters have been arrested, this time in Saudi Arabia after putting on scary ape masks and chasing people on the street.

The jokesters carried out their pranks in the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh, and the police have announced that four people are under arrest for taking part in the pranks.

Police spokesperson Khaled al-Kraidis said officers tracked down those suspected of being involved and arrested four men after their posts went viral on social networks.

In the footage, the pranksters are seen wearing scary ape masks as they look for ‘victims’ on the road in Riyadh City and suddenly jump out of their vehicle to chase after them.

In one scene, a mask-wearing jokester is seen cruising the street alongside a suspicious pedestrian who continually looks over his shoulder at the vehicle apparently following him.

The prankster suddenly opens the car door and the pedestrian turns and sprints across a square.

The Saudi Press Agency said the four suspects are all aged between 20 and 30.

The local authorities announced that legal proceedings are underway against the pranksters and their case is currently in the hands of the public prosecutor’s office.

The investigation is continuing and happened after it was widely reported earlier in the week that a Russian prankster was jailed for two years and four months for pretending to collapse with the coronavirus in an incident in May last year.
