This is the moment a monkey tries to jump to the ceiling in a Chinese metro station and fails to grip on, landing hard on the escalator and ending up with a bloodied mouth.
The incident was filmed at a tube station on the Guiyang Metro in the city of Guiyang in the Chinese province of Guizhou on 12th October.
According to the news site Sina, the monkey entered the tube station and ended up riding an escalator alongside dozens of commuters.
To try to get away from the crowd, the monkey attempted to leap from an escalator handrail onto a mesh ceiling panel but missed.
As a result, the monkey fell a considerable distance to the escalator below, landing hard on a step among the feet of stunned commuters.
The monkey was left with a bloodied mouth after the fall, but managed to run away from the commuters and its current whereabouts are unknown.
A Guiyang Metro spokesperson said that officials were searching the tube station to see if they could find the monkey.
It is unclear if underground staff found the animal or whether it managed to leave the station of its own accord.
In the footage, the monkey is seen standing on a partition railing while apparently sizing up the distance to the ceiling.
The animal leaps for the mesh panel, but fails to grip on and plummets to the escalator below as commuters gasp in shock.
The monkey is then seen climbing the escalator steps with blood apparently around its nose and mouth.
