MONKEY BUSINESS: Cheeky Chimps Dance Moves Become Online Hit For Zoo

This is the hilarious moment a baby chimp makes some cool moves that impressed visitors in its zoo enclosure in China.

In the footage that quickly went viral the cheeky chimp performs moves that delighted visitors of the Linyi Zoo and Botanical Garden, in China’s Shandong Province.

One of the videos shows the monkey making hip-hop-style spins while laying on the ground.

Then, it takes some grass and starts pushing it forward while looking as if it’s still sitting down as it gravitates across the floor.

In another video, the baby orangutan can be seen playing with a tyre, before throwing it away.

The cheeky monkey then again pushes some grass in the same way as in the previous footage, before returning to its favourite toy – the tire.

Some netizens expressed their worries about whether this act was somehow damaging for the monkey, and whether it was a sign of stress, but the zoo defended it as being normal although usually more common in older primates.

The zoo staff told local media that the grass the monkey likes to play with is used to keep the apes’ enclosure warm, and young chimpanzees often find it an interesting task to push the grass around.

They added that professionals will provide some behavioural guidance for the baby chimp once it has grown a bit older.

The video gained a lot of comments on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, with netizen ‘Wan Xiaoling’ saying: “It’s so cute, I really want to go in and play with it.”
