This footage shows a young lawyer grappling with a bungling armed gunman who erupted into her office in an incident that landed her in hospital with four gunshot wounds.

The incident reportedly took place in a shopping centre located in the city of Campos dos Goytacazes, which is located in the south-eastern Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro yesterday (Wednesday, 26th January).

The footage shows the assailant emerging from a staircase into the 27-year-old victim’s office, where he pulls a gun on her and reportedly fires two shots at her that grazed her.

Despite being injured, the lawyer, who has not been named, reportedly fought with the gunman and managed to disarm him, sustaining two additional gunshot wounds in the process.

The harrowing footage shows the young lawyer fighting for her life as she wrestles with the armed gunman, screaming at him and calling for help. She reportedly managed to disarm her assailant after the footage ends.

The shooter, who has not been named, but who is reportedly 22 years old and who is reportedly a former client of the lawyer, was then restrained by security personnel from the shopping centre before being handed over to the Military Police (Brazil’s preventive police force).

The assailant is currently being held in police custody. It is currently unclear if the suspect has been formally charged.

Despite taking four bullets, the young woman reportedly survived the incident, and she was taken to hospital for treatment. There have been no further updates on her condition.
