This is the moment a would-be carjacker is dragged off down the street when the car he is trying to steal takes off in a bid to evade him.

The incident took place in the city of Quevedo, which is located in the province of Los Rios in Ecuador, on New Year’s Day (Saturday, 1st January).

The footage shows two men on a motorcycle pulling up to a red car, which can be seen stopped by the side of the road, next to the pavement.

One of the men jumps off the motorbike, runs over to the red car, and apparently tries to open the front right door in a bid to carjack it.

But the vehicle takes off down the road, with the motorist apparently attempting to flee the crooks.

The man tries to keep up with the car, but he ends up being dragged by it as it takes off down the street at speed.

Footage shot from a different angle shows the car taking off down the road with the man still in tow.

The motorbike can be seen driving after the car and eventually, the man who is being dragged by the vehicle appears to be able to let go, and he slides to a stop on the road as his companion catches up with him.

The car then takes off around the corner and disappears out of sight.
