This is the heartwarming moment a volunteer saves a tiny trapped kitten from a cramped ventilation shaft after the moggy was stuck there for two days.

The incident was filmed at a block of flats on Bukharestskaya Street in the city of Saint Petersburg in the north-western Russian region of Leningrad Oblast, and the footage was later widely shared on social media.

According to local media, the kitten was stuck in the vent for two days before volunteers from the NGO ‘Koshkispas’ managed to free it from the concrete trap.

Report said that a resident on the third floor called Margarita first heard the kitten’s barely audible meows

Margarita said she first thought the tiny kitten belonged to an upstairs neighbour, but when the meows did not stop after two days, the concerned woman called the animal rights group.

A resident on the first floor called Irina allowed the rescuers to make a hole in her kitchen wall to access the kitten’s position in the shaft, as seen in the footage.

Using a small camera, the volunteers could see the cat’s position and slowly managed to pull it through the small hole and out of the vent.

A ‘Koshkispas’ spokesperson told reporters that Margarita has agreed to care for the fluffy little kitten and it is now living in her flat where it was first heard.

It is unclear how the kitten got into the ventilation shaft or if it belonged to someone before.
