This is the shocking moment a Colorado cop is ambushed by a wanted killer and shot three times.
The attempted murder of Officer Michael Hutton took place in Lincoln County in the US state of Colorado on 20th May this year with the video being released by the police on 4th August.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said on social media: “This video is being released to our community to provide details surrounding the ambush of Deputy Michael Hutton.
“Our community has heard many things about that morning, but some portions were untrue and incorrect. Sheriff Tom Nestor will illustrate the events that nearly killed one of Lincoln County’s finest.
“Our community has shown unwavering support and has patiently waited for the investigation to develop so that this information could be released.”
The police added that the video “is a transparent look at one of our darkest moments”.
The police said Officer Hutton was responding to a lorry driver’s report of someone breaking into trailers at a lorry stop.
In the footage, the cop is seen talking to the driver while walking to a lorry with a rear door open before a gunman suddenly shoots him.
The police said Officer Hutton was struck three times, in the hand, the arm, and in the torso, piercing his lung.
The suspected shooter, named as Tristin Ensinger, 25, from Ohio, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a nearby field.
The police said Ensinger was on the run after killing someone a few days earlier and officers later learned that he planned to ambush any investigating cops.
Officer Hutton was released from hospital five days after the shooting.
On 25th May, the police released footage of the injured cop receiving a hero’s welcome from colleagues and civilians.
