This is the moment a Spanish police helicopter chases suspected drug traffickers in a speedboat for over five hours while they hurl packages into the sea and later ask the cops for mercy.

The chase took place in the Mediterranean Sea about 80 miles off the coast of Cartagena in the Spanish region of Murcia last week, according to an official statement by the Interior Ministry released on 28th November.

The report did not specify the exact date of the drug operation.

A Spanish National Police helicopter in the area saw the narco boat approaching the Valencian coast before taking part in a five-hour chase across 100 nautical miles.

The video shows the boat zipping across the water as five suspects wear ski masks and sit on brown packages.

The suspects are later seen throwing some of the packages overboard before the driver waves at the helicopter.

He then gestures rocking a baby before moving his hand to his mouth, apparently saying that he has to feed his family and asks for mercy by clasping his hands together.

The video cuts to the moment the boat is finally stopped and is boarded by agents of the Spanish National Police and the Spanish Tax Office who seize the packages and detain the suspects.

According to the report, cops confiscated 2 tonnes (4409 pounds) of hashish, satellite phones, computer devices, and the vessel which measured 14 metres (46 feet) in length and had two 300-horsepower engines.

The seized narcotics were found inside 66 separate packages, however it is unclear if those include the ones thrown overboard.

There has been no further information given on the charges the suspects face, their identities or their roles in the alleged drug trafficking operation.

The investigation continues.
