Moment Toddler Nearly Drowns In Pool

This is the moment a toddler nearly drowns in a swimming pool before her dad runs out and saves her.

The toddler’s mum Karlla Lohara Araujo Sousa Alves, 28, a baker in the municipality of Matrincha in the Brazilian state of Goias, said her family was enjoying a day around the pool at home when the incident happened.

She told the news site Crescer that her husband Cleyton Alves Pinto, 38, had been looking after their two children, 16-month-old daughter Bella, and their son Miguel, aged 5.

While the children played in the water, Cleyton relaxed in a hammock a few feet away.

He said: “I spent the whole time taking care of them, paying attention and playing with them.”

However, a sudden storm passed over and the family decided to head back inside, and little Bella was taken by her mother to a bedroom to get some dry clothes.

The husband Cleyton had then climbed into the hammock to relax while their son was sat nearby at a table.

Cleyton was relaxing in the hammock waiting for the rain to stop to pull over the pool cover, and in that moment little Bella toddled past without him noticing.

Thinking his daughter was still in the bedroom with her mum, Cleyton failed to see the tot lower herself into the pool before suddenly falling in, and flailing in the water.

In the footage, Miguel appears to notice his sister and raises the alarm causing his dad to leap out of the hammock and jump into the water to save her.

Karlla recalled: “It all happened so fast. I just heard my husband screaming. When I got there, Bella was calm and not crying. Her heart was racing though. I don’t think she swallowed much water.

“For the first few days afterwards, I thought that she seemed scared, a little traumatised. At first she did not want to go to the pool anymore.”

She added that her daughter is now taking swimming lessons online as there are no classes in their area.

After the scary ordeal, Karlla shared the footage on social media to “alert others” to the dangers of leaving a child unattended, even for a few seconds.

But instead of proving a warning to others, she started to receive negative comments from online trolls saying things like “you should lose custody of your child”.

Other comments included “you are both monsters” and “she should have died so the parents would be arrested”.

Karlla said in response to the online backlash: “Accidents happen. All the time. They cannot be avoided. But when you post a warning to others, you do not expect to receive these kinds of comments.”
