An electric vehicle by one of Tesla’s biggest rivals has mysteriously burst into flames sparked third electric car fire in China in just four days.

Video taken in the city of Wuhan, capital of Central China’s Hubei Province, shows the back of the BYD e5 on fire outside a secondary school on 24th April.

The local fire service were able to bring the fire under control shortly after and no one was injured during the fire.

The car’s owner is not believed to have been in the vehicle when the fire started.

Images taken in the aftermath appear to show parts of the electric car having survived the fire.

BYD, based in the city of Shenzhen in southern Guangdong Province, said their experts were still investigating the fire and the exact cause of the blaze is still unclear.

The carmaker, however, claims the fire was not caused by a battery fault, with pictures showing the batteries at the bottom of the car still intact.
