This is the moment strong wind rips the roof from a building and sends it crashing to the road below.

The incident took place in the city of Makhachkala in the south-western Russian republic of Dagestan, and two women were reportedly injured in the roof collapse.

In the footage, a large part of the roof is seen being ripped off the building as a similar sized section is already sprawled across the road.

The falling section lands on a streetlight and breaks in half, with one section landing on a black car travelling along the road at the time.

Meanwhile, debris flies around the city street as passersby frantically run around in the strong wind.

Local media said that two women were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

The regional Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation said that a 150-square-metre section of roof was affected by winds of 65 mph.

Meanwhile, the harsh weather conditions have reportedly left around 40,000 people without power in the city.

Netizen ‘Askhad Gadzhimagomedov’ said: “The wind was not bad enough to rip off roofs, the authorities are to be blamed for cuts and penny-pinching construction projects.”

‘Ruslan Osmanov’ commented: “These new buildings are so weak they can’t even handle a bit of wind. What if there was an earthquake or something?”
