This is the moment a tanker crashes into a queue of cars waiting at a tollbooth.

The incident was filmed by a tollbooth CCTV camera in the municipality of Dalmacio Velez Sarsfield, around 180 kilometres from the city of Cordoba, in the north-central Argentine province of Cordoba.

In the footage, two vehicles are seen queuing at the booth as the driver in front starts to pay the toll fee.

Meanwhile, a large speeding vehicle is seen approaching the vehicles from behind.

The out-of-control tanker driver then ploughs into the rear vehicle which is propelled forwards into the white Renault at the tollbooth.

The three wayward vehicles are then seen speeding past the booth and out of shot.

According to local media, the tanker driver claimed that his brakes failed, but the authorities have not ruled out the possibility that he may have been distracted with his phone.

Fortunately, no one in the three affected vehicles was seriously injured in the incident.

Gustavo Rossi, general secretary of the Argentine construction workers union Uecara, said: “It is unclear whether the driver fell asleep or was distracted on his phone.”

He added: “It was a lucky accident [as no one was seriously injured], but it makes us think about improving security.”

The investigation is ongoing.
