This is the bizarre moment a slow-moving train collides with a snail-paced lorry on a level crossing.

The incident was filmed by a CCTV camera in the north-western Russian city of Saint Petersburg, and the footage has been widely shared on social media.

In the night footage, the lights of an oncoming lorry are seen as it slowly approaches a railway track at the same time as a locomotive is approaching the same spot.

The view of the lorry driver looks as if it was obscured by another train in the way which appears to be stationary.

The slow train hits the lorry’s trailer and the driver’s cab bounces along the ground as the moving locomotive turns the lorry to the side of the track.

According to local media, the accident took place in the city’s port area in the early hours of the morning.

The lorry driver told reporters that he did not see the train approaching while the train operator said that all the alerts and lights were operating normally from his part.

Eyewitnesses said the lorry driver was thrown clear of the cab during the incident, and neither the lorry driver or the train driver were seriously hurt.

Many netizens called it ‘the slowest accident ever’, due to the snail-paced speed both vehicles were travelling at when they collided.

The local authorities have yet to comment on the incident.
