This is the moment a plucky woman slams the car door on a phone thief before chasing him down and reportedly carrying out a citizen’s arrest.

The incident was filmed by a CCTV camera in the South African city of Johannesburg while the woman, name not disclosed, was walking along the pavement with her phone in her hand.

According to the news site The South African, the attack took place in May but the footage was only picked up on social media last week.

At the time of the incident, the victim, who comes from Johannesburg, managed to restrain the attacker and local residents helped hand him over to the police.

Officers on the scene took the suspect to Booyens Police Station where he was charged with common robbery.

In the footage, the victim is seen walking along the pavement with her phone in her hand as a slow-moving car pulls up behind her.

Meanwhile, a man approaches from the other direction and he snatches the woman’s phone when their paths cross.

The car’s back door opens and the thief then tries to jump in, however, the woman slams the door on him.

They both fall to the ground and the man gets up and tries to run away, but the victim grabs his jacket and the clip ends with her continuing to give chase.
