Moment Phoenix Police Officer Fires At Burglar Breaking Into Shop

This is the moment a Phoenix police officer fires at a burglar breaking into a shop in an incident that led to the suspect being injured and arrested.

The incident took place in the city of Phoenix in the US state of Arizona just after midnight on 8th January, but the footage has just been released by the police now.

The footage begins with the suspect allegedly trying to break into the shop by banging a tyre against the door.

When this does not work, he throws the tyre down and goes to find something more efficient. He comes back with a rock, which easily breaks the glass, and he enters the shop.

The footage then shows the police officer responding to the scene. Although there is no sound at first, the police officer appears to be instructing the suspect to put his hands up.

The suspect appears to comply at first before heading over to the door and attempting to open it.

But the suspect, whom police named as Matthew Bia, 26, stops doing this and places his hands on his head, apparently instructed by the police officer to do so again.

The next part of the footage has sound, and the responding police officer can be heard saying: “Hey! Get your hands out of your pants, dude!”

The male police officer, who takes cover behind his police vehicle as soon as the suspect removes his hands from his head again, then adds: “Let me see your f*cking hands!”

The police officer can be heard repeatedly asking Bia to show him his hands, but the suspect appears to reply “f*ck you” and refuses to comply.

A voice-over on the footage belonging to a police officer then explains that the suspect turned his right side away from the police officer, and despite keeping his left hand on his head, he can reportedly be seen placing his right hand on his waist area before suddenly raising his hands towards the police officer, who opens fire, firing a single shot that reportedly did not hit the suspect.

Bia then hits the floor. The suspect can then be seen extending his hands towards the police officer while on his knees on the broken glass.

The police said that after about four minutes, the suspect eventually exited the store with his hands raised before lying down on the ground, as instructed.

At least two police officers can then be seen approaching the suspect and handcuffing him.

The suspect can be seen with blood on his hands, which police said stemmed from the suspect cutting himself on the broken glass and not from the shot fired by the police officer, which reportedly did not hit the suspect.

The officer-involved shooting is being investigated, as is standard practice after incidents of this nature.
