This is the moment people scream as a man is pummelled by floods in Colombia.

The country has been battered by heavy rains and this footage filmed in the city of Medellin, which is the capital of the Antioquia department in north-western Colombia, shows a young man being pummelled by floodwater in the street late on Tuesday night on 30th November.

People in the background can be heard screaming, while his relatives and neighbours try to help him to safety.

Hundreds of families have been affected and the man in this footage, who has not been named, can be seen clinging to a lamppost as brown floodwater pummels him.

According to local media reports, the incident took place in the Robledo neighbourhood of Medellin and the man was eventually rescued.

The emergency services said that they had received over 1,000 calls in the city between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

Laura Cristina Duarte Osorio, the Director of the Administrative Department of Disaster Risk Management (Departamento Administrativo de Gestión del Riesgo de Desastres; DAGRD), is quoted in local media reports as saying that firefighters had to rescue numerous people trapped in public transport vehicles such as buses.

She added that the “Medellin fire department helped rescue 36 people who were trapped in three buses in this area, and doing some manoeuvres with ropes helped them to safety.”
