This is shocking moment a group of friends slowly dig around a near-dead dog that had been buried alive in the woods.

According to local media, the group of pals from the northern Argentine province of Misiones saved the dog’s life after coming across its shallow grave.

Reports said the poor dog ran straight to a house after being freed and the group followed it to its apparent owner.

The group confronted a man at the house who denied owning the animal, according to local media.

In the footage, a young man is seen digging around the buried dog as several friends assist.

One shot shows the barely moving animal buried in the earth except for its face and one leg.

According to local media, Homero the dog is currently recovering from its ordeal after sustaining head injuries and it has a hearing problem.

Veterinarian Alejandro Bischoff told local media: “The dog’s right auricle (the visible part of the ear that is outside the head) is almost entirely gone while the left one has an infection.

“Homero’s hearing is still being evaluated and we will provide updates on its recovery process.”

Bischoff added that the dog will be made available for adoption when it has fully recovered from the ordeal.

Many netizens have already offered to give the pooch a forever home.

It is unclear whether the local authorities are investigating the incident.
