This is the moment a man stabs his estranged wife over 15 times when she refuses to get back together with him.

The incident took place in the town of Avare in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo on 16th December.

According to the news site Metropoles, the man waited for his estranged wife outside her place of work and attacked her with a knife when she refused to get back together with him.

Adelson de Oliveira Marinho, 39, reportedly stabbed his 43-year-old wife, whose name was not reported, over 15 times in the attack.

Remarkably, the woman survived the ordeal and is hospitalised at the Santa Casa de Misericordia medical centre.

The following day, the hospital told Metropoles that the patient had undergone surgery and is in a stable condition, adding that she is currently conscious and not at risk of death.

In a statement to the police, the victim said her estranged husband was waiting for her outside her place of work at around 6am.

After splitting up around a month ago, the man asked the victim to get back together, and allegedly attacked her with a knife when she refused.

The two have been married for 20 years and they have three children together, aged 20, 18 and 3.

The victim said she ended the relationship after no longer being to stand the emotional and psychological abuse he inflicted on her over the years, according to reports.

Meanwhile, the suspect was found hiding in a wooded area next to the SP-255 motorway and was arrested on the afternoon of 17th December.

The case is currently being investigated as an attempted femicide.
