This is the shocking moment a lift in China short-circuits and catches fire after a young boy pees in it.

The incident took place in the city of Hefei in the province of Anhui in eastern China.

The footage shows a young boy, who has not been named, getting into a lift on his own and then apparently urinating on the buttons, causing a short circuit as the electrical components burn and cease to function, with flashes of light caught on camera as the internal circuitry goes up in flames.

The lift comes to a stop and the doors do not open, leaving the young boy trapped with no way out.

Local media reported that the young boy cried out for help and was eventually heard by a takeaway delivery man who called the police.

The young boy was eventually rescued after adults managed to pry the doors to the malfunctioning lift open. He was reportedly uninjured and did not require medical treatment.

It is currently unknown exactly how long the young boy was trapped in the lift.
