This is the moment a sobbing schoolboy who does not want to go to class tells his mum that “school was not invented by God, it was invented by a crazy man who did not know what to do with kids”.
The incident was filmed by the boy’s mother in the central Colombian capital Bogota and was later shared on social media where it has been widely circulated.
In the footage, the young boy called Mateo, whose age is unknown, is seen crying in front of his mum who is scolding him for his behaviour at school.
She tells him “you are always late for school” and her sobbing son replies “yes, but anyway, school was not invented by God, it was invented by a crazy man who did not know what to do with kids”.
When the mum asks Mateo how he knows that, he adds “everyone knows it except for you and dad”.
Netizens had a lot to say about the boy’s comments while also taking aim at the country’s education system.
Journalist Mauricio Silva G. said on Twitter: “This is the declaration of the year. Simply marvellous!”
Twitter user ‘Andresfor1’ commented: “The worst thing is that parents and teachers see him as some sort of misfit and not what he really is, a victim of an education system that wakes children up as early as 4am and forces them to be repetitive machines without teaching with love.”
‘GalvisGeral’ said: “He has things clear. It is time for schools to change, their teaching method is archaic. They forget that today’s children will not be adults in today’s world.”
