The moment a huge crane toppled over onto a post bringing down power lines as well was captured on the body camera of a nearby police officer.

The incident where the crane smashed into the roof of the nearby house happened in Fort Lauderdale in Florida.

The huge crane was moving a shed into the rear garden of the property when it toppled over at the address 1920 NE 57th St. on 9th October.

According to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Stephen Gollan, the family that lived inside the property were on holiday at the time, although pets including dogs and cats were still inside and were safely rescued.

Fire crews were involved in removing the crane from the roof and an investigation is being carried out as to what caused it to topple over after the apparent failure of the stabilising system.

The fire crew said that the house was no longer habitable after the ceiling inside also collapsed.

The video was shot by the body camera of a Fort Lauderdale police Department officer who was in the street. It is unclear what the police officer was doing at the time and whether it was connected with the movement of the crane.
