This is the incredible moment a huge fireball appears in the sky behind a troupe of dancers rehearsing outside on a platform.

The incident took place in the central Mexican capital Mexico City during dance rehearsals for an event to mark Mexican Army Day (19th February).

According to local media, the fireball was also spotted in many other parts of the country, including cities such as Michoacan, Morelos, Queretaro, Oaxaca, Hidalgo and Tlaxcala.

The meteorite passed through the night sky at around 8pm on 18th February.

The phenomenon was also filmed by cameras monitoring Mexico’s mighty Popocatepetl volcano.

Footage shows the moment the huge fireball crosses the sky in a dazzling display of speed and light.

A spokesperson for the Civil Protection authority said they do not believe that the meteorite impacted on land.

The spokesperson added: “Regarding the video shared on social media, once it was analysed by specialists of the Mexican National Civil Protection System (SINAPROC), it was confirmed that the meteorite burned up in the sky.

“It is unlikely that it would have impacted in a region and so far nothing has been reported.”
