This is the moment an 84-year-old Argentine woman is applauded by hospital staff for defeating COVID-19 after recently visiting Italy and Spain and contracting the virus.

The incident was filmed at the Sofia Terrero Santamarina Hospital in the city of Monte Grande in the eastern Argentine province of Buenos Aires, and the footage has been widely shared on social media.

In the video, the elderly woman, whose name has not been reported to respect her family’s wishes, is seen walking through the hospital corridor while staff members applaud her.

Wearing a face mask, the 84-year-old says: “Thank you my angels. Blessings to you all.”

According to local media, the OAP recently travelled to Italy and Spain which is where she probably contracted the virus.

When she arrived back to Argentina at the end of March, the country went into lockdown and the OAP began to suffer from virus symptoms a few days later, according to reports.

She was taken to hospital with a high fever and after being released, the OAP will have to spend a period of time isolating at a relative’s house before returning to the province of Catamarca where she is from.

Reports confirmed that she had recovered from the virus but it was not mentioned if she was tested negative.

Catamarca health minister Claudia Palladino said: “She did not travel with anyone from Catamarca and she is not considered an epidemiological risk.”

According to the latest data from the Johns Hopkins University, there have been 2,571 cases of COVID-19 in Argentina and 112 related deaths.
