The incident took place in the city of Portoviejo , which is located in the province of Manabi, in western Ecuador on the coast.

The dead man, who has been named as Erick Cedeno in local media reports, can be seen in the footage being removed from the coffin and placed on the back of the motorcycle.

His friends, who have not been named, have been slammed by the authorities, who labelled the incident “aberrant”, but the young men reportedly obtained permission from the dead man’s parents.

The footage of their bid to give their friend one last sendoff has gone viral on social media networks.

His friends then place his limp body on the back of a motorcycle driven by another of their friends.

Another friend then gets on behind the corpse to ensure that it does not fall off and the motorbike speeds off.

The family of the 21-year-old dead man said that he was shot and killed by two assailants last weekend while himself on his way to the wake of a relative, according to local media reports. It is unclear if any suspects have been arrested.
