This is the terrifying moment when four boats in a Turkish port turn into a ball of fire within seconds.

A fire, which started in a boat, spread to three other boats in the port in the neighbourhood of Turkler in the district of Alanya in the southern Turkish province of Antalya at around 10pm on 16th August.

Some unidentified personnel on the boats tried to intervene in the flames. However, they saved their lives by jumping into the sea from the boats that turned into fireballs in a matter of seconds.

Antalya Metropolitan Municipality and Alanya Municipality firefighters, as well as Alanya Coast Guard Boat Command teams, intervened in the fire.

While two wooden boats were turned to ashes in the fire, two boats covered with sheet metal were extinguished. While cooling work was going on on the boats, one person was affected by the smoke and was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

The video shared on Facebook by an eyewitness named Okan Celia Homes, shows the boats surrendering to the flames within minutes.

Alanya District Governor Fatih Urkmezer provided information about the fire and said, “Unfortunately, a fire occurred on four boats at the port in the neighbourhood of Turkler. One of them was extinguished, the other is about to be extinguished. Two of them completely burned.

“Both the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department and the Coast Guard intervened from the sea. Of course, since these are wooden boats, they burn very quickly. According to the information we have received, there has been no loss of life so far.

“After the extinguishing process is over, the necessary investigation will be made by the gendarmerie and coast guard in line with the instructions of the prosecutor’s office.”

While the cause of the fire was being searched, an investigation was opened regarding the incident.
