This is the moment the first baby koala of the season cuddles its mum and nibbles on a eucalyptus leaf at an Australian animal park.

The cute scene was filmn state of Queensland, and the footage was shared on social media.

The Wildlife HQ said on Facebook: “Cuteness alert! It’s with great excitement that we share with you a little video of our first Koala Joey for the season! Congratulations Ginger Rose, she is gorgeous!”

In the footage, Ginger Rose is seen caring for her fluffy baby koala while halfway up a tree and enjoying a snack on some eucalyptus leaves.

The wildlife sanctuary said the little joey is nearly six months old and has only just started appearing in Ginger Rose’s pouch.

A Wildlife HQ spokesperson told Newsflash: “Ginger Rose is a young koala who was born at Wildlife HQ. Her little joey is about five and a half months old and has only just begun appearing out of her mum’s pouch. She is the first joey for the season for us.

“Every koala is important. Unfortunately, they face many threats to their survival in the wild. Our koalas at Wildlife HQ are important ambassadors for their species.”
