This is the moment a female street hawker punches a WPC in the face after being asked to pack up her wares.

The incident was filmed at a market in the northern Serbian capital Belgrade and the footage was later shared on Twitter where it has been viewed 280,000 times.

The suspect, a mother of four who says she is the sole breadwinner, allegedly hit the police officer on 12th January and her trial is now underway in the Serbian capital.

In the footage, the WPC is seen standing next to the street hawker as she struggles with a full suitcase of goods.

At one point, the female cop appears to grab the case and some items topple out, angering the hawker.

She squares up to the WPC and throws a right hook which catches the official in the face and sends her crashing to the ground.

The community police officer lies motionless on the ground as the street seller then runs off into the stunned crowd.

The hawker has been identified as mother-of-four Sadija Durmisi, 37, who was arrested shortly after the incident and spent three days in prison, according to reports.

The public prosecutor’s office has reportedly charged Durmisi with assaulting a police officer and is asking for a minimum of two years in prison for the offence.

Meanwhile, the defendant claimed that she was defending herself from the WPC, who she claimed treated her like an animal and pulled her hair and assaulted her which made her lose her temper, according to local media.

She said: “I did not want a problem, I wanted to move on, but well, it happened. The policewoman was insulting me and she hit me in front of my sick son. I had to defend myself.”

“I have four children, 21, 20, 17 and four years old. There are nine of us in the house and my son is expecting a baby so soon there will be 10, and I take care of everyone.”

The trial continues.
