This is the moment dolphins swim alongside a police boat on patrol during COVID-19 lockdown.

The video was filmed on 21st April off the coast of Massif des Calanques in the southern French department of Bouches-du-Rhone and the footage was shared on social media by the local police.

The footage shows a vessel belonging to the maritime brigade of Marseille moving through the clear water as at least two dolphins swim alongside.

The police accompanied the video with the message: “Our friends the dolphins came to remind us how much life and nature must be protected.”

In the video, we see the cetaceans following the police boat on a patrol.

Local media said it was a pleasant surprise for officers on the 36th day of lockdown to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

One netizen commented: “Thank you for these beautiful images. I hope the tourist boats do not return! Respectful, limited tourism is possible.”

A spokesperson for the Calanques National Park said: “The video is an indication of the powerful effect of lockdown on the behaviour of wildlife.”

According to reports, since the introduction of containment measures in many countries around the world, an increasing number of wild animals have been seen entering urban areas and returning to the coastlines.
