According to local media, the couple were returning home after shopping for the Chinese New Year which takes place on 25th January.

A police spokesperson told local media: “They locked [the front gate] before leaving at 1.30pm on Tuesday (21st January), but when they arrived home around 2.20pm they saw their gate open and a silver vehicle parked on their driveway.”

The police said the couple tried to use their vehicle to block the thieves on their property, but they rammed the front of their car several times before managing to escape, as seen in the footage.

According to reports, the couple lost a laptop, a mobile phone, one gold ring, several bottles of whisky and over 2,600 MYR (487 GBP) in foreign currency.

The video shows the suspects’ licence plate, but the local police confirmed that the number is fake.

The investigation is ongoing.
