This is the moment a cop uses his patrol car to knock over a fleeing teenage motorcyclist and then subdues him with a flying kick, garnering cheers from bystanders but also instigating an internal inquiry into his conduct.
Footage of the dramatic arrest was filmed by a bystander in the Brazilian municipality of Perola on the night of Sunday, 1st August.
The recording shows how the 17-year-old suspect tries to flee on a motorbike from the officers pursuing him in a police car.
However, the car turns into the teen’s path, and he is forced to swerve away, crashing his motorbike.
A cop then gets out of the police car and brings him to the ground with a theatrical flying kick before he can escape on foot.
Cheers can be heard amongst the bystanders as the suspect is brought to the ground by the cop’s actions.
According to the police report, the officers saw the biker engaging in “suspicious activity” during a patrol.
They ordered him to pull over, but he tried to speed away from them instead, and a chase ensued through the roads of the municipality.
The actions of the cop in question were described as “progressive use of force” in the police report.
The report also noted that the biker’s actions put the lives of others at risk, as there were several pedestrians and vehicles present at the scene at the time.
The teen was arrested and taken to the police station, where he was charged with driving without a licence, disobeying stop orders, dangerous driving and driving on the wrong side of the road.
The police also seized his motorbike, as it had licence debts.
They then referred the case to social workers in the municipality of Sao Jorge do Patrocinio, where the teen and his parents live.
The police have since said they will conduct an internal inquiry into the arrest to deem whether the use of force was appropriate.
