This is the moment a fox and a cat battles over a sausage on the ground with the cunning canine eventually winning out.

The incident was filmed on the Yamal Peninsula in the north-western Russian region of Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, and the video was later widely shared on social media.

In the footage, a domestic cat is seen standing over sausage meat on the snowy ground as a crouching fox tries to edge closer to grab it.

The cat repeatedly jabs out a paw as the fox makes a grab for the meat.

The pair stand-off as people are heard laughing in the background, however, the sly fox is eventually seen grabbing the sausage in its mouth before quickly retreating to chomp it down.

Netizens had a lot to say about the battle with some social media users comparing the fight to the UFC encounter between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Netizen ‘SamFirst’ wrote: “Brute force versus agility.”

‘Kirzoviikit’ said: “Where I live, foxes eat domestic cats.”

The red fox (Vulpes vulpes) is the largest of the true foxes although it has been extensively hunted by humans as a pest and for its fur for many years.
