This is the tear-jerking moment a terminally-ill dog with a huge tumour on its head meets the new family who will take care of the cute pooch in his final days.

Video footage of Coco meeting his new family shows the dog with a large tumour on its head as new owner Luciana Karosas strokes his back.

Images of the dog with severe metastasis, the development of secondary malignant growths near a primary site of cancer, were posted online with an appeal for a loving family to care for the animal in his final days.

According to local media, Griselda Herrera rescued Coco the dog in the city of Berazategui in the eastern Argentine province of Buenos Aires, and started a Twitter campaign to find an owner.

Luciano Karosas, 21, saw the video and immediately got in contact with Herrera to adopt the terminally-ill animal.

He told local media: “It took me a while to come to terms with the idea that we won’t have much time together.

“I even took him to a vet who works with stem cell treatments to see what we could do, looking for a ray of hope, but he told me that there is nothing that can be done to extend his life.”

The 21-year-old has promised to pamper Coco for the final days of his life, saying: “All I want to do is give him lots of love before he leaves us.”

Reports said that the dog has so far spent 15 fun-filled days with his new family and is doing very well.

His owners are reportedly giving him cannabis oil in hopes of slowing down the dog’s cancer.

Karosas said: “I love seeing him like this. I wish it wasn’t just 40 days. I see how he is recovering and it feels as though Coco will be here for a while.”
