This is the moment a brave umpire pulls a terrified child from a dust devil during a Mother’s Day baseball tournament.

The incident took place at a seven-and-under Mother’s Day baseball tournament at the Minor League Fields at Ed Auston Park, Fort Caroline, outside Jacksonville, in the US state of Florida, on Sunday, 14th May.

The footage shows the young boy, who has been named as seven-year-old Bauer Zoya and who was about to play at home plate, being caught up in the dust devil before umpire Aiden Wiles rushes in and pulls him to safety.

People watching the game at the Tribes Cooperation Mother’s Day Tournament can be heard clapping, with one man shouting “you saved his life”.

The umpire, who is reportedly in high school, has been praised for his quick thinking, with footage of the rescue, during the PVAA Sharks vs FCAA Indians under sevens game, caught on the playing field’s camera stream.

The footage has reportedly gone viral online, with netizens and baseball fans around the world praising the umpire for his bravery.

Neither the child nor the umpire were injured, according to local media.

A dust devil is a wind phenomenon that is generally smaller and less intense than a tornado.
