This is the moment a bouncy castle with eight children inside is blown upside down by a strong gust of wind, killing one and critically injuring another.

One girl, aged 8, died in the incident, which took place in the city of Mislata in the Spanish province of Valencia on the night of 4th January.

The seven other children were injured, and one girl, aged 4, remains in a critical condition with a reserved prognosis, according to the latest local reports.

The footage of the incident was taken by a local resident named Noemi, who took out her phone to film how the strong wind was moving the bouncy castle before it overturned.

Some of the children ended up less badly injured than others because their falls were cushioned when they landed on another inflatable surface, according to eyewitnesses.

However, the deceased girl and the other girl in intensive care were less lucky, and were reported to have hit their heads on the ground in the incident.

The girl who died initially survived the accident, though she was knocked unconscious. It was a few hours later, in hospital, when she succumbed to her injuries.

According to reports, locals are now criticising the decision to go ahead with the fair given the adverse weather conditions at the time.

Not only is the decision to hold the fair being criticised, but locals are now also questioning whether the bouncy castle was even properly secured to the ground.

The Policia Cientifica (Forensic Police) are reported to have opened an investigation into the incident to clarify if anyone was at fault.

The municipal authorities are collaborating with the police and have suspended all festivities related to Epiphany (6th January), which is widely celebrated in Spain.

An official period of mourning will end on Friday, 7th January.
