This is the moment an armed blood-soaked dad holds his stepdaughter hostage outside their home before a cop manages to jump him as the man stops to look at his phone.

The incident was filmed outside the family home on Moreno Street in the neighbourhood of Villa Moreno in the city of Rosario in the northern Argentine province of Santa Fe.

According to local media, a woman called the authorities claiming that her husband, identified as 41-year-old Ariel Sayago, was armed and threatening her and her five children.

Reports said the suspect’s mouth and clothes were also covered in blood after he sustained a bullet wound to the face, although it is currently unclear whether this was self-inflicted or caused by another person.

When the police arrived at the house, Sayago was allegedly involved in a shootout with officers before going indoors and returning again with his 25-year-old stepdaughter.

Local media said he held a gun in his left hand while using his stepdaughter as a hostage to avoid arrest.

In the video, a police mediator is heard trying to calm down the blood-soaked man as he stands outside his home with the frightened young woman.

At the end of the clip, Sayago appears to take his phone out of his pocket before looking at the screen which is when a quick-thinking cop manages to jump him.

Local media identified the brave officer as Marcos Horvat.

Inside the house, the police seized two guns, four kilogrammes of cannabis, weighing scales as well as his black Renault Clio, according to reports.

Local media said the unnamed stepdaughter only sustained minor injuries to her arm and was visited by psychologists.

Sayago was arrested and taken to hospital, although there have been no further updates on his condition.

He has a criminal record for robbery and unspecified aggressive acts which took place in 2018, according to reports.
