This is the moment an assassin in a car shoots dead a young man in the middle of the street in a suspected gang hit.

The shooting took place in the neighbourhood of Los Alamos in the city of San Luis Potosi located in the central Mexican state of the same name in the early hours of 3rd January.

The city is a common battleground for the rival groups the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and the Gulf Cartel (CDG).

In the CCTV footage, the victim is seen crossing the street as a white car pulls up behind him and the hitman points his gun out of the window.

The man apparently hears gunshots and turns to run as a bullet hits the wall.

The victim continues running across the street but is hit by at least one bullet and falls to the ground.

The white car then reverses over to the man’s motionless body and a gunman in the passenger seat fires at him again to make sure.

The police arrived on the scene and found the victim dead on the ground with injuries and gunshot wounds to his back, neck, chin and hand, according to the news site El Universal.

Officers also collected the gun casings on the ground to be sent for analysis.

The local authorities have not confirmed that the killing was gang-related.

The victim’s body will undergo an autopsy as the investigation continues.
