A beggar who attacked this young woman and her dog on the street in New York when she refused to give him any spare change ran off when she fought back and started swearing at him in Russian.

Anna Lesun, 30, is an Instagrammer and winner of Miss Yekaterinburg in 2012 and said the incident happened in Soho in New York when she was approached by a “well-dressed” young man who asked for money.

She said she had been walking her dog at the time and added she told him: “I said ‘I’m sorry, no’ and he became very aggressive. He said he was going to kick my dog and came towards me, and then he shoved me and hit me with his fist. But I wasn’t hurt, and I shoved him back and started swearing in Russian. I don’t think he expected it, and after calling me a bitch, thank God he then turned and made off.”

She said she is not sure what she would have done if he had fought back, and added it was a shock because it was the first time a man had ever attacked her. She is now considering taking self-defence training to make sure she is better prepared next time. She was grateful that the man had decided to run off when she fought back instead of attacking her more.

The young woman was also a contestant in the Miss Russia 2014 beauty contest and now works as a model based in New York.

It is not clear if police are investigating the incident or whether she filed a report.
