Mobile Phone Power Bank Explodes On Train Platform

This is the moment a mobile phone power bank that has caught fire suddenly explodes like a firework on a train station platform.

The frightening incident happened today (16th May) at Lijiao Station on Line 3 of the Guangzhou Metro in China’s southern province of Guangdong.

Mobile phone footage taken by a witness shows the power bank having already caught fire and burning up on the station platform, with smoke rising from the device as commuters stay clear of it.

A staff member can be seen attempting to unlock a fire extinguisher to use on the power bank when it suddenly explodes with a loud bang, frightening the passengers in the station.

The blast also appears to send part of the to portable battery flying back into the train car via the open doors.

As the video ends, a passenger can be seen kicking the fiery device back out the train onto the platform.

The fire was eventually doused and no injuries were reported after the incident.

However, it is still unclear who the device belongs to or whether it was in use when it caught fire.

Guangzhou Metro spokeswoman Chen, who was identified by her surname, said: “It happened around 10:40am this morning. No passengers were injured.

“We were evacuating the train at the time. It had caught fire in the car and a staff member moved it onto the platform.

“He put it out with a fire extinguisher.”

The make and model of the power bank have not been reported,
