Two Mexican pirates have been arrested for boarding and robbing the vessel, identified as brothers Sebastian N. and Rubicel N., who are believed to be part of a bigger gang.

According to local media, the vessel was halfway through a popular river cruise when the pirates beat up one tourist and forced the others to lie on the deck while they stripped them of their belongings, stealing jewellery, cash and mobile phones.

After the incident, the suspects reportedly hid in an area of mangroves where they made good their escape.

Police spokesman Carlos Alcudia told local media: “It is not the first time that this has happened, the suspects have been arrested before but released due to lack of evidence, however this time it will not be the same.”
