MESSI EATER: Artist Carves Football Star’s Image In Tofu

This amazing video shows a Chinese woodcarver who switched to using tofu as he creates an astonishing image of Argentina’s World Cup hero Lionel Messi.

Artist Wang Weiting, from Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, came up with the idea of creating one of his famous carvings which attracted millions of views after the star’s amazing performance in the final.

In a video of his carving, Wang is seen cutting into a block of traditional tofu with a scalpel.

The footage ends with him pouring soy sauce over the white tofu so that a dark brown image of the football star suddenly appears.

Beside the block, the pieces of scraped-away tofu have also been used to create two more portraits of the star.

Speaking about his unique method, Wang said: “I started off by carving tofu, but then at some stage I realised that the scraps that I cut away I could also use to create artwork as well.

“I started initially using them to spell out the name of the work, but then I moved to creating silhouettes.”

He added: “Carving regardless of what you use is a creative process and always hard work.”

He said that he enjoyed using tofu but and had tried other methods, like carving fruit using with his teeth.
