This is the moment a bungling female fashion designer wearing clunky platform shoes reaches into the back seat of her Mercedes and it lunges forwards mowing down over a dozen people on a zebra crossing.

The driver named by reports as Ding Wei, 44, was captured on dashcam video showing her stopped at the lights before her Mercedes-Benz C200 suddenly jolts forwards into the crowd.

Police in Guangzhou, capital of China’s southern Guangdong Province, said the incident in Tianhe District at 8:50am local time earlier today (21st May) left 13 people injured, two of whom are in critical condition.

Ding was arrested but later cleared of drink-driving and drug use.

Authorities claim that the accident happened due to an “operational mistake”.

According to cops, the woman claims to have kept the automatic car in D gear, reached for water in back seat when the car lunged forward.

Footage showing Ding’s white Mercedes-Benz saloon mowing down pedestrians during morning rush-hour at the junction between Linhe Middle Road and Linle Road has been widely shared online.

Images of the aftermath show numerous pedestrians lying injured at the crossroads, while a picture also snapped Ding leaving her vehicle and appearing to be wearing platform shoes.

Social media images, which have yet to be corroborate by the police, include Ding’s identification card showing her full name and date of birth.

Another picture is of a brief profile of her career as a fashion designer, which began in as early as 2004.
