This is the shocking moment a knife-wielding man is shot when an Israeli police officer empties his entire gun into the attacker.

The family of victim Shirel Habura, 30, who later died say he attacked the policeman to defend his sister when she got into a row with the uniformed officer.

They said he was mentally ill, and in the footage purportedly taken in the Israeli city of Rosh Ha’ayin, the police officer can be seen running onto a road pursued by the man.

He appears to be wielding a knife which at some point he uses to injure the officer, and then chases after him a short distance before both come crashing to the ground.

The office however gets up first, and can be seen emptying all of the rounds in his gun into the man lying on the ground. He is then seen apparently loading his gun.

Initially he was described as being seriously wounded but later on it was confirmed that he had died.

The dead man’s father told local media that the policeman turned up over reports his son had been injuring animals. He had left the scene when he saw the policeman, but when he saw the officer arguing with his sister had attacked him with the knife.

He criticised the move to shoot a dead saying that the saving shot to the leg would have been appropriate. They said they had requested help from the police previously but were told nothing could be done as he was not committing a crime. They said they had also tried to contact welfare services who had been indifferent to the predicament.
