Hospital medics are facing public fury after they apparently left a 14-year-old mother to give birth on the pavement outside the entrance and let her baby die.
Phone footage shows how the girl – named only as Araceli, from Ciudad Hidalgo – gave birth outside Tapachula General Hospital in Chiapas, Mexico, on 12th November.
She had been forced to give birth on the pavement near the entrance after medics allegedly refused her entry.
Images show how the teenager gave birth onto a piece of cardboard while passers-by covered her from view with a blanket.
No medic or nurse reportedly came to her assistance during the delivery.
The only staff member to appear was a nurse who simply asked the person filming to stop.
Reports said that by the time medics finally saw the teenager, her newborn had already died.
Chiapas Health Ministry said in a statement that it had already launched a probe into the incident and will determine if anyone from the hospital is liable for negligence.
Meanwhile, netizens demanded that not only the hospital be investigated but also how an underage minor got pregnant.
Some social media users suggested that hospital services were overstretched following an influx of migrants over the nearby border with Guatemala.
