This is the moment a mayor takes on a counsellor in an MMA bout to settle their political differences and he is declared the winner despite being taken down.
Simao Peixoto is the mayor of the city of Borba, which is located in the northwestern Brazilian state of Amazonas.
He stepped into the ring to take on former councillor Erineu Alves Da Silva, who is also known as Mirico, in an MMA fight on Sunday (12th December).
The fight was set up after the counsellor reportedly criticised the mayor over his management of the city.
The footage shows the two men sparring in the ring and launching impressive kicks and punches at each other as the crowd goes wild.
The MMA fight, which took place in front of a cheering, live audience, was in three rounds and the mayor was declared the winner by the end of it despite a tremendous start by Mirico who stunned the man with a flurry of kicks and even took him down at one point.
The mayor, whose political disagreements with his rival are currently unclear, reportedly said at the end of the fight that he had accepted the “challenge” from his main rival so as to encourage people to take up sports in the city.
