This is the moment a bull charges at a goading matador and sends him flying through the air onto the ground before repeatedly attacking him with its horns.

The shocking incident occurred during the Dulce Nombre de Jesus festival in the Jesus district in the Cajamarca department of Peru.

In the video, Peruvian bullfighter Carlo Cabello, nicknamed ‘El Calo’ can be seen performing a ‘faena’, a move which sees him turn his back to the bull and wave to the spectators.

As Cabello turns, the bull suddenly charges, flipping the matador into the air and Cabello then crashes to the ground.

The bull, which has small spikes known as ‘bandilleras’ stuck into its back, turns and begins pushing Cabello along the ground with its horns before other bullfighters run in to distract it.

The injured matador is then escorted out of the bullring and local media report he was taken for medical treatment in the stadium.

Reports state he sustained an injury to his left leg in the incident but it is unclear if he was hospitalised.

The bull was later killed by matador Paco Cespedes after receiving authorisation of the judges, according to reports.

Netizen ‘Luis Anthony Jamill Avila Sanchez’ said: “Animals should not be blamed for reacting in that way.”
