Police investigating a brutal attack on the family of a wealthy local hairdresser say in total 10 were murdered after more victims were found in a disused cistern.
Hairdresser Elizamar da Silva, 39, and her three small children were the first to disappear after being carjacked on 12th January.
The badly burned bodies of Elizamar, 39, and her three children were found in the burnt-out car in Cristalina, a municipality located in the southeast of the state of Goias, in, Brazil, the following day.
Police named the children as Gabriel, seven, and six-year-old twins Rafael and Rafaela.
Then the killers tortured the mother of the dead woman and sister for days to make them hand over the proceeds from a BRL 400,000 (GBP 64,000) property sale.
When that failed, they too, were burned to death in a car belonging to Lopes de Oliveira.
Police in Unai found the torched car with two badly-burned bodies inside on 14th January.
Officers have so far arrested neighbours Gideon Batista de Menezes, Horácio Carlos Ferreira Barbosa and Fabrício Silva Canhedo who apparently knew that the money was in the house and were determined to steal it.
Another man reportedly involved was identified as Carlomam dos Santos Nogueira who is still on the run.
The operation following the murders in Brazil’s federal district it’s so extensive that it is now also involving the police forces of Goiás and Minas Gerais.
